US politics is completely corrupt, and provides an example for an Australian republic.
1. The president must not have any powers, rather be a cermonial head of state as the GG is today.
2. The president must not be elected by the public, but appointed by parliament.

these sums of money are a disgrace - i guess Romney is being heavily backed by Wall Street so that he will repeal regulation if he gets in and give them back their bonuses.
wouldn't be so bad if voting was compulsory. This vote is only once every 4 years so I would have thought, for all complying citizens, it should be a must and not an option.
I have heard that the turnout this time may only be 40% - how misrepresentational is that??
