US election Pacs a super $6bn punch

The 2012 presidential poll will be the most expensive in American history, but what really provokes unease among voters is the way money is being raised and spent.

Alan Kesby,

The public do not know where the donations come from, but the president elect and his team certainly do. (US election Pacs a super $6bn punch, November 7)
US politics is completely corrupt, and provides an example for an Australian republic.
1. The president must not have any powers, rather be a cermonial head of state as the GG is today.
2. The president must not be elected by the public, but appointed by parliament.

James Munro,

I think the Coalition should use SuperPacs here to offset the effect of ALP friendly union campaigns (eg "your rights at work" in 2007). (US election Pacs a super $6bn punch, November 7)

Graham Turville-ince,

My only comments are (US election Pacs a super $6bn punch, November 7):
these sums of money are a disgrace - i guess Romney is being heavily backed by Wall Street so that he will repeal regulation if he gets in and give them back their bonuses.
wouldn't be so bad if voting was compulsory. This vote is only once every 4 years so I would have thought, for all complying citizens, it should be a must and not an option.
I have heard that the turnout this time may only be 40% - how misrepresentational is that??
I am open to comments if anyone thinks that what I am saying is factually wrong
