A date with mysterious Oman

Unlike some of its neighbours, Oman is still an uncovered gem in the marvellously diverse Middle East, where fruits of the earth and sea are plentiful.

Peter Fast,

My wife and I visited Oman in May and were pleasantly surprised but we learned that perhaps we might have been rewarded by delaying our tour until just after the Monsoon when Salala where also traveled becomes quite green apparently (A date with mysterious Oman, August 10). The locals are friendly and English, as you said, is widely spoken. Initially the cultural differences were confronting as we were amongst just a handful of Europeans we encountered however on departing we were relaxed and wished we had a longer stay. The coastline is spectacular and yes it is quite hot - but dry and with spectacularly rugged mountains as a backdrop to Muscat. An interesting place to visit where we felt welcome.
