The hunt for an auto silver bullet

Efforts to cut emissions and fossil fuel use by 80 per cent by 2050 may be extremely challenging, but it is possible with the right policies. It will be a gradual process, however, with no silver bullet in sight.

Ken not available,

The answers are all there and I have stated them ad nauseum.

1. Diesel LNG for power train. Why, availability of shale gas, that can be liquified. Diesel, because it uses less fuel.

2. LNG, because we can use liquified CO2 to remove shale gas/oil (technology available).

3. Sales tax (for cars) based on engine efficiency. Public use of locally produced cars mandatory (not optional).

4. Carbon fiber (lighter stronger, therefor requiring smaller engine) should replace steel as the body of the vehicle.

5. Research (post graduate), into using CO2 to produce carbon fiber (understand Einstein before commenting).

6. LNG emits less CO2 then petrol, it is just a more efficient form of carbon.

stanley not ava...,

The answer is obvious. There are thousands of places worldwide where tidal power can be harnessed. This power is never failing.non polluting.safe. All it needs is to place the existing technology in place to create inexhaustible electricity. Go in foe electric cars etc in a major way.Why won't it be done? The existing power suppliers and the entire system is doing very well as it is.In other words. They are making money, and lots of it.
