A key rail line in Australia's major coking coal region has been partially reopened after a train derailment shut it for nearly a week, operator Queensland Rail said.
The rail firm said one of the two tracks of the Blackwater coal system, which is used to haul coal from mines owned by Xstrata Coal, Felix Resources and Rio Tinto Coal Australia to ports, has been opened after repairs.
Repair work for the second track is continuing and the company expected to resume operations on both tracks by Friday, Queensland Rail said in an e-mailed statement.
Ensham Resources Pty Ltd and Xstrata's coal unit have declared force majeure on some of their shipments as a result of the rail line closures to allow for delays.
