Godfreys conceded that it may have breached section 52 of the Trade Practices Act. The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission took action against the vacuum cleaner retailer over promotional claims that it was offering a model at half-price, when it had not sold the model domestically before. Graeme Samuel, chairman of the competition watchdog, says it will not hesitate to take action on misleading comparison price advertising. Many clothing retailers could easily fall foul of the regulator on this matter
