Using Business Spectator
Home Page
The News: Stories from Australia and the world are published throughout the day and night as news happens. They are presented in order of importance and carry the publication time and date of each article. You can click anywhere on a story headline or precede to read the full article. Click your refresh button at any time to ensure you are viewing the latest home page.
The Spectators: This is Business Spectator's commentary section, spearheaded by three of Australia's most respected business commentators -- Alan Kohler, Robert Gottliebsen and Stephen Bartholomeusz (the 'KGB'). Supported by commentary from a wide range of other specialists, analysis is published in real time, as news breaks. Click anywhere on a story headline or precede to read the full article, or go to the Spectators home page to view all recent commentary articles.
Sharemarket: Australian Stock Exchange listed company prices, charts and announcements, plus closing prices of the key international indexes, are found here. Advanced charting features allow you to compare price histories of stocks and indexes and analyse trends using moving averages, stochastic indicators and Bollinger bands. Prices are delayed 20 minutes; indexes are updated live.
Industries: 25 industry categories provide what are effectively mini-home pages dedicated to each industry. The latest news, commentary, insights and ideas are displayed, along with the most mentioned companies and people in each sector.
Interviews: In this new special section of the site, we interview the newsmakers each day to provide you with insights straight from the source.
Blogs: Business Spectator introduces Australia's most comprehensive industry coverage from 21 knowledgeable industry insiders, blogging for us. Readers can interact and comment on our bloggers' posts.
The Conversation: Combines the best of a letters-to-the-editor page, a blog, an online forum and a roundtable discussion. This is where Australia's business community can exchange views, react to the news and set agendas. The Conversation is updated throughout the day as contributions roll in. Comments are submitted for publication by filling in the form which appears at the bottom of many Business Spectator articles and on The Conversation home page.
Wheels & Deals: Mergers, acquisitions, deals, market rumour and speculation and investment banking -- this is where it gets reported. Stories are added and updated throughout the day. The most important and topical items are displayed on the home page, and you can view 24 hours of stories by clicking through to the Wheels & Deals home page.
Registration
Business Spectator is a free site. All content and services on the site (including the email alert service) are free to users. However, it is a requirement of some of our content providers that users register once. To do this, you will need to register with a valid email address and password. You are able to read up to three articles before we ask you to register or log in.
It is recommended that you choose an easy-to-remember password that is not the same password you use for banking or other sensitive on-line transactions. When you register we will send you a welcome email containing information about the site and our services, as well as a record of your email address and password. If you forget your password and have not saved the welcome email, we can email your password to you again.

Email alerts and My Watchlist
Rather than send you a copy of our top stories at a certain time each day, we believe you should get the news you want, when you want it. So Business Spectator enables you to customise email alerts around particular companies, industry sectors or commentators. All you need to do is tell us what you want to be notified about, and then choose whether you want your news As it happens, Daily or Weekly.
Alternatively, set up a Watchlist to track articles on Australian listed companies. The Watchlist is a powerful tool that enables you to view the latest news and commentary about Australian listed companies you're following. Set up a personal Watchlist, then whenever you visit the site you can view the latest stories mentioning the companies on your Watchlist.
Please note: Customised email alerts and the Watchlist feature have been temporarily disabled while we upgrade our systems. We apologise for the inconvenience. We're working hard to have these popular features back very soon, better than ever.
Search
The best way to find stories from our archive is by using the search function located at the top right corner of the home page and all other pages. This searches the entire text of all articles in our archive. Using this search facility produces a list of all published articles that match your search. Use the advanced search form to narrow the search further. If you want to go straight to advanced search, just click the “Go” button.
Related Articles
At the end of every story are links that enable you to view all the day’s articles from related industry sectors, as well as any other stories published on the companies and people mentioned in the story you’ve read.
