Financial Crisis commentary and insights
The Global Financial Crisis (GFC) was the most significant global financial downturn since the Great Depression of the 1920's.
Starting in America with ‘Low Doc’ and sub-prime mortgage housing loans and risk taking by the larger banking institutions, the calling in of debts caused many high risk financial schemes to become untangled and uncovered.
The most notable of these high risk schemes was the highly publicised Bernard Madoff Ponzi scheme.
Highly leveraged nations in the Euro Zone also became victims with Iceland, Greece, Spain and the Eastern Block countries most affected with some close to defaulting on their sovereign debt.
