Australia's National Broadband Network (NBN)

The National Broadband Network is an Australian Federal Government $43 Billion initiative to improve Australia's accesss and integration into the Digital Economy.

Using Fibre to the Node and Fibre to the Home plus wireless broadband technologies, broadband internet speeds will increase to 90 percent of the Australian population.

Labor's communications Minister Stephen Conroy has formed the National Broadband Network Company as a wholesale communications provider.

However, some communications carriers such as Telstra, Optus and AAPT have reservation about whether the legislation enables the NBN to be a retail outlet competing against them.

The NBN has also been used for regulatory reform to structurally separate Telstra.
