acquires US rival, vWorker

Booming Australian start-up has expanded its operations through acquiring its US counterpart, vWorker.

The move has reaffirmed’s position as the largest online marketplace for jobs in coding, writing and graphic design.  

The umbrella of websites now services around 6.6 million users worldwide. That total includes vWorker’s 2.5 million users.

The Australian company has grown aggressively since its inception in 2009, acquiring multiple international freelance job start-ups in its rise to power.

It now describes itself as having a “cult” following of users, with freelance based work exploding in developing countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan and India.

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
