AusBBS set to become first NBN based virtual ISP

AusBBS is set to become one of Australia’s first NBN based virtual internet service providers (ISP) with the start-up securing its first round of funding.

The founding of AusBBS serves as a footnote to increased competition that the NBN is expected to bring to Australia’s ISP market.

“The NBN will create a highly competitive environment in which new entrant ISPs can compete for the first time in many years,” said AusBBS CEO, Rob Appel.

“AusBBS will be among a new generation of ISPs structured to take advantage of non-discriminatory wholesale pricing and passing on genuine benefits to customers,” Mr Appel said.

By using cloud computing to outsource most of its operations, Mr Appel said his company will be able to offer customers cheaper access to the new network.
