Apple's app store regulation makes app development difficult: Govt IT manager

Apple’s policy to personally audit and approve all app store applications complicates the app development process according to a senior Victorian public service IT manager.

According to The Australian Financial Review, Victorian department of health digital services unit manager, Gerardine O’Sullivan told the audience at the CeBIT conference that Apple’s policy further complicates the app development process.

She warned that government IT staff would have to become familiar with the rules guiding Apple’s app store, as the public service needs “to be [developing apps] in this space, and there is no alternative”.

Apple Australia spokeswomen, Fiona Martin said that the company maintained strict policies around the applications allowed into its apps store to protect both the store's security and its customer experience.
