Australian dollar slides on jobs data

The Australian dollar dropped back below 93 US cents, after Australian Bureau of Statistics data showed the unemployment rate lifted to a four-year high in August. 

At 1128 AEST, prior to the release of the data, the Australian dollar was trading at 93.47 US cents.

At 1133 AEST, following the data's release, the currency was trading at 92.93 US cents.

ABS data showed the unemployment rate rose to 5.8 per cent in August, with 10,800 jobs lost in the month.
